The first people to inhabit the vicinity of Mammoth Lakes was the Mono people. Evidence declares that they have been living in the area for thousands of years. They settled in the valley but walked to other places when trading with different tribes. The European history of Mammoth Lakes started in 1877, when four prospectors staked a claim on Mineral Hill, south of the current town, along Old Mammoth Road. In 1878, the Mammoth Mining Company was organized to mine Mineral Hill, which caused a gold rush.
Fantastic place for backpackers and day hikers of all experience levels. The Manistee River Trail follows the east shore of the Manistee River for 8.8 miles through rolling hills. The trail traverses past several wetlands and there are bridges crossing two creeks. A waterfall near the northern end of the trail is very popular with many hikers (from Hodenpyl to Tippy Dam). The Manistee River Trail/North Country National Scenic Trail connector is also the site of the largest wooden suspension bridge in Lower Michigan. READ MORE
A 20-mile loop can be formed with the North Country National Scenic Trail. There are two trailheads for the Manistee River Trail, Seaton Creek Campground and Red Bridge, both offer camping. READ MORE
Great trip to Thailand : )
It was a quick, but at the same time an exciting low-budget trip through four countries, including Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Belarus.
Now, that was a hell of a trip. Totally unexpected, without any particular goal, just me against the road.
Weimar is definitely one of the coziest and thanks to that one of my favorite German cities. While Jena associates exclusively with its university, Weimar is extremely rich on sites, monuments, historical names. A true gem of Thuringia, for sure.
Another splendid ride along the west coast of Sri Lanka. This time to Bentota - a renown beach resort some 60 km south of Colombo. On this trip we were also lucky to visit a nice turtle hatchery.

Colombo appeared to be quite surprising. Much less hectic than any Indian city I've been to. Quite modern, with a lot of construction work going on, not as pushy on tourists as I expected. Although there's not a lot to see there, the capital of Sri Lanka hides several gems, which you are about to discover with me. Read on!
My first day in Sri Lanka started with a try-out trip to Kalutara. A try-out trip is what I call a short journey that helps me get a feeling of the country, its people, transportation system, prices, etc. I headed off to Kalutara, the closest city to my hotel.
