Tiger's Nest Monastery / Paro Taktsang

Sacred mountainside monastery with ornately designed temples & art, plus legendary meditation caves.-Google. Shrouded in fog Buddhist monastery is one of the largest religious centers in the country. It hangs over an abyss on a cliff 3120 meters high, towering seven hundred meters above the Paro Valley. Founded in 1692, the temple complex was built next to the caves in which the monks took refuge for several hundred years. In 1998, Taktsang Lhakhang was almost completely burned down - and was restored to its original form seven years later. Today, the Monastery is an important tourist attraction in Bhutan. From the balconies located on religious monuments, picturesque landscapes of the western part of the country open up, and halls with sculptures and statues of Buddha are located in the inner rooms carved right into the rock.

Tongariro National Park

Tongariro is New Zealand's oldest national park. Park located on New Zealand's North Island. The park has 3 active volcanoes: Tongariro, Ngauruhoe (Mount Doom in “The Lord of the Rings' films) and Ruapehu with its ski slopes. The Tongariro Alpine Crossing trail passes the Emerald Lakes and boiling mud pools, culminating at still-active Red Crater. Park wildlife includes the brown kiwi and the whio, or blue duck. Tongariro River has rapids and trout.

It was established in 1887, making it the oldest national park in the country and the fourth oldest in the world.

The park covers an area of 795.98 square kilometers (307.48 square miles) and is known for its stunning volcanic landscapes, including three active volcanoes: Mount Tongariro, Mount Ngauruhoe, and Mount Ruapehu. These volcanoes not only create a dramatic backdrop but also offer a range of outdoor activities and breathtaking scenery.

One of the most popular attractions in Tongariro National Park is the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, a 19.4-kilometer (12-mile) hike that takes you through diverse landscapes, including volcanic craters, alpine meadows, emerald lakes, and steaming vents. The hike is considered one of the best day hikes in the world and offers incredible views of the surrounding mountains.

Another notable feature in the park is the Whakapapa Ski Area on Mount Ruapehu. It is the largest ski area in New Zealand and offers both beginner and advanced skiing and snowboarding options. The ski season typically runs from June to October.

For those interested in Maori culture, Tongariro National Park holds great significance.
